WHEN ONE DOOR CLOSES ...

You might have noticed how things at Artificial have slowed down lately. The reason has been that our other activities and responsibilities within the field of digital culture have being filling up our calendars and we have had a hard time keeping up the same level of effort at Artificial. Instead of compromising on the quality and quantity of our content, we have decided to shut down our activities at Artificial. This will be the last newsletter from us.

The website will continue running as an archive site, so the content will not disappear. We won't disappear either and will be continuing our work in the curator group Maskinstorm (http://www.maskinstorm.org). Together with a great bunch of people we will be organizing a number of digital art exhibitions in the time to come. You might have noticed our first project 'Arcade'. Otherwise, click here: http://www.maskinstorm.org/projects/mine.htm.

IMPORTANT: From this point on, this list will be used to inform you about the digital art activities of Maskinstorm. If you do not wish to receive emails from this list, you can easily terminate your subscription at the bottom of this email.

Before we close up shop, we have one last Artificial Special to present: 'Embodiment in digital art'. Emil Bach Soerensen takes a closer look at the role of the body in contemporary digital art and culture. Check out his new interviews with German game art group Susigames and German curator Joachim Jäger. Also check out the previously published interviews within the theme with Camille Utterback and Marc Downie. Our focus on this subject is part of a wider theme on 'body and technology' which will be launched by the web magazine Turbulens (http://www.turbulens.net) in March 2007. Maskinstorm is also involved in the theme.

Thanks for all the positive support and comments over the years.

All the best,

Kristine and Thomas

The game art installation EdgeBomber by the young German art and gaming group Susigames contributes to the current trend of augmented and physical games. Emil Bach Soerensen asked Susigames a few questions about EdgeBomber and physical gaming in general.

SPECIAL: LEARNING EMBODIMENT FROM FILM AND VIDEO ART
Contemporary digital art and design dealing with augmented reality and embodied interfaces can learn a lot from film and video art. Emil Bach Soerensen spoke with Joachim Jäger, curator of the exhibition Beyond Cinema: The Art of Projection at Hamburger Bahnhof.
